Attendance
Education is important and this includes regular attendance at school. This is essential to ensure you are achieving your educational best and increase your careers and life options. NSW public schools work with your parents/guardians to encouraged and support regular attendance of children and young people. When you attend school every day, learning becomes easier and you will build and maintain friendships.
The teacher will work through a number of statements and students will put their hands up if they believe it is true, or put their hands on their heads if it is false.
Statements:
As a class, on the whiteboard teachers are to create a Y diagram to highlight positive attendance at school and they will brainstorm the following:
- NSW Department of Education and Communities, Learning and Engagement, 2015.
- What was your final attendance?
- Are there any unjustified absences?
- Are you happy with your attendance? If yes, why? If no, what can you do to improve your attendance?

Statements:
- Students can go on holiday during the school term without providing information and receiving permission from the Principal.
- Parents/Guardians must provide justified reasons for absences within seven days of students returning to school.
- Principals may request medical certificate or additional information if student is away for a prolonged period of time.
- At the end of year 10, if students want to, they can leave school.
- All students are required to attend 85% or above of school days throughout the year.
- Being on time to school each day can have impact my overall attendance.
