Bullying
Australian schools will stand united in their communities to celebrate the National Day of Action against Bullying and Violence (NDA). The National Day of Action is Australia’s key anti-bullying event for schools. Schools are called to imagine a world free from bullying and share their BIG IDEAS.
Our expectations today:
· Act respectfully to the teacher, students in your class and yourself.
· Be a responsible learner with the content
· Participate productively in this session
The aim is to think critically about bullying and it’s issue in society. As Year 9 students at Balmain Campus we expect you to be role models for the younger students. Bullying isn’t accepted in our community.
The National Day is a positive day of action, bringing school communities together to help find workable solutions that address bullying and violence.

Brainstorm how you could speak out, how could you help a friend, yourself or someone you know who is being bullied.

Mind map: Who could you speak to?
Scenario: A group of students call Nathan “fat boy” whenever he passes them. Think and talk about Nathan’s situation and answer the following questions.
- How do you think Nathan might feel when people call him “fat boy”?
- List some of the effects that the bullying might have on Nathan. Think about the effects on Nathan at home and at school.
- If you were Nathan, how would you deal with this situation?
- As Nathan’s friend, what are some things you could suggest to him to help stop bullying? Who could Nathan talk to at school?
- Write your own message or statement to encourage people to speak up. It could be a poem, statement, sentence, song lyric, rap drawing or graffiti.
Support can be offered if you experience bullying with the school counsellors, Year Advisors, Boys Advisor, Girls Advisor, LGTBQI Contact, HT Wellbeing or any other teacher you feel comfortable with.
