Careers and Subject Selections
A message from Mr Arvidson:
Hello Yr 10 - I haven't been dropping in to your classes or stopping you in the corridor to pester you to think about about career options and the pathways to get you there for a while. Time for me to catch up. Time for you to turn your minds to subjects for next year.
First instruction - find your SSC Blackwattle Senior Course Guide 2022-23. If you've lost it, you can find it online.
Now I want you all to go to jobjump.com.au. Many of you have registered. If you haven't, click I'm New. The school is Sydney Secondary College Balmain. The password is sscbc
Once you're in, go to the Subjects page. Click on some stuff. Have a poke around. It has some excellent hints about what you should chose in Yr 11 & 12 if you know what careers you are interested in. If you have absolutely no idea, do the Career Wiz Quiz. There's also a great quiz at joboutlook.gov.au.
If you know what career you're interested in and it requires you to go to uni, here's a good way to make sure you're doing the right subjects in Yr 11 & 12. Click on the ATAR Search button. Click on the first option - agriculture (I know you're not interested in agriculture... just do it). It will bring up a page that shows the courses you can do in that area. Now click on Show Senior Subjects. You can see that the Bachelor of Veterinary Technology at Charles Sturt University (Wagga Wagga Campus) assumes you have done Chemistry and Mathematics.
We've talked before about three important terms for admission to uni: prerequisites, assumed and recommended. Prerequisite means you have to have done a subject in Yr 11&12 to get into the course.
Assumed means you need to know the content of the course before you start your uni degree.
I'm pretty sure you understand what recommended means.
Take a look at what is required
Got the idea? So start searching. As always, if you've got any questions, ask me.
